Welcome to

Ames Buddhist Mahasangha

American Zen

Ames Buddhist Mahasangha is an ecumenical American Buddhist sangha (with primarily Korean Soen and Vietnamese Thiền lineage roots). As a modern American sangha, we vow to act with compassion, wisdom and equity, to share resources, and to build relationships that empower liberation from dukkha.  We are based in Ames, Iowa, but include members across the country.

Events

Grand Monastic Ordination

On October 8, we held a Grand Monastic Ordination, with Revs. Faith Shim'min and Andrew Jiquang taking traditional bhikṣu vows.  We were joined in-person and online by 10 fully ordained priests and monks from three Buddhist traditions (FMZO, Theravada, and Soto).  This is important, because it makes it clear that the people taking precepts are joining the broader Buddhist community, and not an individual or sect.
